Integra File Submission

Have questions about file submission and setup? Here are some answers. Keep in mind, these are general guidelines and that requirements may be different from job to job. Your Integra account manager can provide you any assistance you need in setting up and submitting your files. Feel free to give us a call at (717) 626-7895.

Data Transfer

Files may be sent electronically. Small files can be sent as email attachments. Large files can be uploaded to our FTP site or provided on CD, DVD or other universal media.

PDF Files for Output

Our preferred format for file submission is PDF. We’re happy to work with you or your designer to ensure proper PDF file creation for print production. Please contact us asap in your design process to allow for testing before submitting files for print production.

Postscript vs. Application Files

Integra accepts native application files (e.g. InDesign) but we encourage PDF submissions to be made from these native application files. If you submit application files, please remember to package/collect all files and printer fonts used in your file creation. Missing images/fonts can result in delays in the processing your print job.

Preferred Layout Applications

We prefer Adobe InDesign® and QuarkXPress®. We can work with either the Mac or PC versions of each application. Digital files should be accompanied by a final hard copy output at 100% to provide a reference for the final product. We recommend sending a test file for a sample layout to identify any potential problems in advance.

Page Setup

  • Set your page or document size to the trim size (final size) of your publication.
  • If you set up your pages as “facing pages,” put even-numbered pages on the left and odd-numbered pages on the right.
  • Ensure margins are consistent from file to file.
  • Use master pages for positioning of running heads/footers so placement remains consistent from page to page.
Bleeds

If you wish to print an object that prints to the edge of the page, a “bleed” is necessary. Extend the edge of the element 9 points or 1/8” past the edge of the page.

Fonts

Integra must have the identical fonts you have used to design your page files. Please send copies of all used fonts along with your job in a folder labeled “fonts.” If applicable, we will need both printer and screen fonts.

Common Font Issues:

  • Do not use style menu for styling. When formatting your text for italic or bold typefaces, select that option from the font family rather than assigning it a bold or italic style from the style menu.
  • If you’ve included an EPS graphic file, we must have the screen and printer fonts for that text to correctly produce your graphic. If possible, convert the text in the EPS to outlines or embed all fonts when saving as an EPS.

Trapping

Do not manually add trap to your files. Trapping and RIPing are completed through the plant’s prepress system.

Color

  • RGB and Indexed Color images need to be converted to CMYK to be separated properly.
  • To convert a RGB image to a CMYK image in Photoshop, select image, then mode then CMYK. Color shift will occur following conversion.
  • CMYK images should have a resolution of 300 to 350 dpi. Less than 300 dpi degrades the image quality; more than 350 is overkill.
  • Grayscale images should have a minimum 200 ppi for quality reproduction.
  • To reduce an image with too much resolution, in Photoshop, go to image, then image size, be sure “resample image” is checked and in “print size change the ppi to 350.
  • Remember – you can’t give a low-resolution image more resolution.
